How To Sew Cushions For Patio Furniture

Patio furniture is a great way to add comfort and style to your outdoor space. However, the cushions on patio furniture can often be uncomfortable or fade quickly in the sun. You can easily sew new cushions that are both comfortable and durable.

Materials you will need:

Fabric (outdoor fabric is recommended)
Batting
Thread
Zipper (optional)
Sewing machine

Instructions:

1. Measure the cushions that you will be replacing. Add 2 to 4" to the length and width of each cushion to allow for seams and batting.

2. Cut two pieces of fabric to the desired size. Cut two pieces of batting to the same size.

3. Place one piece of fabric right side up on a flat surface. Place one piece of batting on top of the fabric, and then place the other piece of fabric on top of the batting, right side down. Pin the layers together.

4. Sew around the edges of the cushion, using a 3/8" seam allowance. Leave an opening for the zipper, if desired.

5. Turn the cushion right side out and insert the zipper, if desired. Pin the opening closed and sew it shut.

6. Insert the cushion into the cover and enjoy your new comfortable and durable patio cushions!

Tips:

Use a heavy-duty needle for sewing outdoor fabric.
If you are using a zipper, choose a heavy-duty zipper that is designed for outdoor use.
Pre-wash and dry the fabric before sewing to prevent fading or shrinkage.
For added comfort, use a thick layer of batting.
