How To Rescreen A Sliding Patio Door
Sliding patio doors are a convenient and stylish way to connect your home to the outdoors. However, over time, the screens on these doors can become damaged or torn, allowing bugs and other pests to enter your home. Rescreening a sliding patio door is a relatively simple and inexpensive project that can be completed in a few hours.
To start, you will need to gather the following materials:
- New screen material
- Spline
- Spline tool
- Utility knife
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
Once you have gathered your materials, you can begin the rescreening process:
- Remove the old screen from the door. To do this, simply use a utility knife to cut the spline that holds the screen in place. Be careful not to damage the frame of the door.
- Measure the opening of the door. Use a measuring tape to determine the width and height of the opening. Add 2 inches to each measurement to allow for overlap.
- Cut the new screen material to size. Use a utility knife and scissors to cut the screen material to the desired size. Be sure to leave a 1-inch overlap on all sides.
- Install the new screen material. Place the new screen material over the opening in the door. Align the edges of the screen with the edges of the frame. Use a spline tool to insert the spline into the groove around the edge of the frame. Be sure to stretch the screen material as you insert the spline.
- Trim the excess screen material. Once the spline is in place, use a utility knife to trim any excess screen material. Be careful not to cut the spline.
Your sliding patio door is now rescreened and ready to enjoy!
