How to Make a Patio Umbrella Stand

A patio umbrella is a great way to add shade and style to your outdoor space. But what good is an umbrella without a stand? You can buy a patio umbrella stand, but they can be expensive. Fortunately, it's easy to make your stand with a few simple materials.

Materials You'll Need

4 concrete patio pavers (12" x 12" or larger)
1 galvanized steel pipe (2" or 3" diameter, 24" long)
4 bolts (3/8" diameter, 4" long)
4 washers
4 nuts
Drill
Wrench

Instructions

1. Place two of the patio pavers on the ground, side by side. Center the steel pipe on the pavers, perpendicular to them. Mark the location of the holes in the pipe onto the pavers.

2. Move the pavers apart and drill four holes in each paver, at the marks you made in step 1. The holes should be large enough to accommodate the bolts.

3. Place one of the pavers back in place, on top of the steel pipe. Insert the bolts through the holes in the paver and into the holes in the pipe. Secure the bolts with the washers and nuts.

4. Place the other paver on top of the bolts and secure it with the remaining nuts and washers.

5. Turn the stand upside down and place the remaining two pavers on the bottom, side by side. Center the steel pipe on the pavers and secure it with the remaining bolts, washers, and nuts.

6. Your patio umbrella stand is now complete. Simply insert your patio umbrella into the hole in the stand and enjoy the shade.

Tips

For a more permanent stand, you can glue the pavers together with construction adhesive.
You can use different size pavers and pipes to customize the look of your stand.
If you don't have a drill, you can use a hammer and nail to create the holes in the pavers.
