How to Build a Raised Stone Patio
A raised stone patio is an excellent addition to any home, providing a beautiful and functional outdoor living space. Building a raised stone patio is a relatively simple project that can be completed in a weekend with the right tools and materials.
Materials you'll need:
- Stone pavers
- Sand
- Gravel
- Edging
- Measuring tape
- Level
- Tamper
- Polymeric sand
Instructions:
- Choose a location. The first step is to choose a location for your patio. The area should be level and well-drained. If the area is not level, you will need to level it before proceeding.
- Mark out the area. Once you have chosen a location, mark out the area for your patio using a measuring tape and stakes. The size of the patio will depend on the space you have available and your needs.
- Excavate the area. Once you have marked out the area, excavate it to a depth of 6 inches. This will create a space for the gravel and sand base.
- Install the base. Spread a layer of gravel over the excavated area, and then tamp it down. On top of the gravel, spread a layer of sand, and then tamp it down again.
- Set the pavers. Start setting the pavers in the center of the patio and work your way out. Use a level to make sure that each paver is level, and use a tamper to tamp them down into the sand.
- Fill the joints. Once all of the pavers are in place, fill the joints between the pavers with polymeric sand. Polymeric sand is a type of sand that hardens when it is wet, which will help to keep the pavers in place.
Once you have finished installing the pavers, your raised stone patio is complete! Enjoy your new outdoor living space.
